A physical example of Yin Yang theory, the turned timber handle of the Fu Chen represents the strength of Yang energy while the soft flowing horsetail shows us the unassuming power of Yin energy. Using the handle to block and strike, the soft tail is a distracting defence but look out for its sting! The energies will move from one to the other: twirl the handle to create a sharp flick of the tail; let the tail follow as the strikes a side-on blow…
Playing with these concepts while practising the Fu Chen Feng, you’ll come to understand its power and its place in the Wudang weaponry. Work through one movement at a time - slowly at first but then alter your speed, play with the applications, see how these changes alter the flow and feeling of your form.
The Fu Chen is a connection between Tai Chi and Kung Fu. We have the chance with this weapon to create an exciting flow of hard, soft, fast and slow movement. Adhering to the principles of our art, we can have a little fun!
